ENERGY LABEL FOR RENAULT CARS
Renault rolls out its "energy label" across the distribution network. From January 1, 2006, Renault is rolling out a CO2 energy labeling system across all its sales outlets in France. In this way, it is implementing government measures to educate consumers on the CO2 emissions of their cars. The French government has published a decree (official journal of November 13, 2005)introducing a "CO2 label" for all new vehicles sold in France. This label comprises seven color-coded categories, similar to those used for household appliances. The objective is to provide customers with clear comparative information on the CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of vehicles available. Through this measure, France's ministry of ecology and sustainable development, and interministerial group on the greenhouse effect are giving further weight to European directive 1999/94, which is already in force. Registration certificates for vehicles falling into category F (orange) will cost an extra €2 for each additional gram of CO2/km emitted above 200g/km. This cost will rise to €4 per gram of CO2/km emitted above 250g/km for vehicles in category G (red). With average CO2 emissions of 145g/km across its range, Renault ranks among the market leaders* in this area. A full 20% of Group sales concern vehicles emitting less than 120g/km of CO2. These models include the 80hp Mégane Hatch and Sport Tourer 1.5 dCi (117g/km of CO2), the 85hp Clio III 1.5 dCi (117g/km), the Twingo 1.2 16V Quickshift 5 (118g/km), the 85hp Mégane 1.5 dCi (120g/km) and the 105hp Mégane 1.5 dCi (120g/km). On Laguna, the new 150hp 2.0 dCi engine sets high standards of efficiency for its category and power class, emitting just 154g/km of CO2. The carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by burning organic materials (gasoline, diesel fuel, etc.) is a non-polluting emission. It is the main greenhouse gas.
