INDONESIA AIMS TO EXPORT 12 BILLION LITERS BIOFUEL
Indonesia has targeted to export 12 billion liters of biofuel until 2010, an official said here Monday. The government already announced the ambitious project in biofuel production with a planned investment of 205 trillion rupiah (around 22.5 billion U.S. dollars). Initial production has been targeted at 13 million tons in 2009. Biofuel is expected to share 10 percent of national fuel consumption in 2010 and save foreign exchange spending from oil import by 10 billion dollars, said Al Hilal Hamdi, head of the national biofuel development. Indonesia is preparing plantation areas of at least five million hectares to grow plants that become the essential materials in biofuel production, he said.
